You are here : Consular Service / Registry Office / Birth and Deaths
  • Births and deaths may be the subject of either a transcription or a declaration at the Consular Department of the Embassy

    • A transcription can be made at any time (no set deadline) but it must be carried out on sight of an official document setting out the declaration of the occurrence at the local registry office of births, marriages and deaths;

    • The declaration is subject to two conditions:
    - It must be made within 12 days of the birth or death. After this deadline has elapsed, only a transcription is possible;
    - It may only be accepted if the occurrence has first been declared at the local registry office, if this formality is required by domestic legislation.
  • Documentation

    • The transcription is carried out on production of a full copy of the certificate drawn up by the local authorities;

    • In some cases of force majeure, in particular where the foreign law does not authorise the issuing of a full copy, the production of an extract suffices;

    • Application drawn up by the party concerned or letter from the competent local authority sent to the Embassy.
