When applying for a temporary passport (laissez-passer), the loss of a passport, whether valid or expired, must be evidenced by a report made to the police.

Applications for a temporary passport must be submitted around one week prior to the departure date. The temporary passport, which is valid for 48 hours, will be issued the day before departure.

A temporary passport may only be requested by Madagascan nationals who hold only this nationality. A reason must be given in the request. Only requests due to emergencies and unexpected events which have prevented the holder from applying for a new passport in time will be considered.

A temporary passport is required by any minor without a valid individual passport whose father is a Madagascan national, who is not included in a valid passport held by his/her parents and who must return to Madagascar. Applications for temporary passports must be made by the parent with parental authority.
